Shower curbs have been built from portland cement mortar for as long as showers have been around. There is no better way to build a curb. The curb is the edge of your pan that isn t along a wall and where you would step into the shower. Find the length of the side of your shower area that doesn t have a wall.

So would it be an issue to build the shower with the pan liner below the mortar bed and install a waterproofing membrane on the shower curb and corners only but not across the entire shower bed. As you might expect different people use different methods to build shower curbs.
